Summer Wednesdays Concert Series: Gordon Goodwin and his Big Phat Band

California State University, San Bernardino will once again host its free Summer Wednesdays Concert Series.
The shows will take place in the Lower Commons for four consecutive weeks and will start at 7 p.m. Most performances will last approximately two hours and conclude by 9 p.m. Admission to the concerts is free, and parking is complimentary in Lot D. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring picnic baskets, lawn chairs, blankets and love of music.

On July 28, Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band will appear with the CSUSB Jazz Band. Gordon Goodwin and his Big Phat Band have been recognized internationally. The group won a Grammy Award in 2006 for the instrumental arrangement of “Incredits” from the Pixar film “The Incredibles.” The group has also received three Emmy Awards, and eight Grammy nominations. The band includes 18 of L.A.’s finest jazz players and has an original contemporary sound that includes a wide variety of styles from swing to rock.  Members include Eric Marienthal, Sal Lozano, Wayne Bergeron, Andy Martin and Bernie Dresel to name a few.  Big Phat Band’s repertoire includes songs like “Too Close For Comfort,” “Sing Sang Sung,” “Hit the Ground Running,” “September,” and “Backrow Politics.”

The Summer Wednesdays Concert Series is sponsored by Cal State San Bernardino’s President’s Office, the Santos Manuel Student Union, Coussoulis Arena, academic computing and media services, the music department, the College of Extended Learning, and the San Bernardino Sun newspaper.
